History
The Nonviolence Festival is a project of World Without Wars and Violence
The Nonviolence Festival was initiated by members of the humanist movement in 2005 as a day in the park
- community groups, vendors, speakers and musicians came together with the community for a day long fair and concert.
In the years that have followed, the Festival has grown to include several events throughout the year.
In 2007, the Peace Walk included Dr, Ron Harris, who walked with Gandhi 60 years earlier.
Also, in 2007 the Non Violence International Film Festival was launched.
In 2008 the Day in the Park was moved from Waterloo Park to Vicoria Park Island.
The 2009 NVF events where linked to the whole world through the World March for Peace and Nonviolence.

About the Nonviolence Festival Season
The NFS describes a year, or part of a year of events that promote non-violence. The organization of the NFS is by volunteers who contribute in any ways they can. Volunteers design, discuss, plan and act to make this happen.
Organizing and participating in NVF events is a way for people to communicate the importance of non-violence. It raises awareness about nonviolence as well as building a supporting social environment of nonviolence.
The NFS can be a model for other NFS activities in other communities. All that is required is for volunteers to organize events where and how they wish. Funding can come from donations or through advertising local businesses.
We have defined violence as the objectification of a person; treating a human like an object, denying one’s liberty, when someone is treated as a means to an end. Understood in this way, violence can be experienced in many ways; physically, mentally, emotionally, sexually, as well as for many reasons; economic, religious, racial etc.
